Ships We Forgot to Remember

Newspaper article recording the arrival in In late 1898 of the S.S. Manchester City, 7,698 gross tons. She was the largest vessel by over 1000 tons to attempt the navigation of the Manchester Ship Canal after it was opened. On reaching the terminal docks, carrying cattle and general cargo, she was met by the Lord Mayor of Manchester and a large welcoming crowd.
